Bauhaus Posters: Getting Back to the Roots of Minimalism in Design

As legendary is the school, as inspiring this Bauhaus poster design will be.

Last year Bauhaus celebrated its 100th anniversary. However, over these years, the practical principles of the German art school only gained in force and popularity. And eventually, there are more and more passionate followers seeking to fill the ambiance around them with Bauhaus attributes, where posters play a prominent role.

Seeking inspiration in simple shapes, minimal colors, and practical minimalism, generations of artists finally come to Bauhaus typography and painting style. Now, when clean design with as few details as possible is all the rage, creators tend to rediscover and rethink its principles.

And along with the philosophy, certain artworks become a huge source of inspiration. Just think of Bauhaus posters, which looked revolutionary in mid-twenties and perform as a symbol of good artistic taste a century later. Along with constructivism, international typographic style (best known as Swiss design), and De Stijl, Bauhaus gave start to abstract style in illustration in particular, which then followed in recent design styles.

What’s the most fascinating about Bauhaus poster design, is that it’s versatile and easily adapts to the current epoch. And while modern creators make up their own iterations of German geometry, we can simply enjoy its ubiquity, which is limited neither by classic shapes nor by the canonical black-white-red palette.

In our selection of arts, we’ve tried to bring the best of modern Bauhaus-inspired posters as well as some legendary pieces. There are also a few artworks featuring the universal typeface for the lovers of Swiss design and Helvetica. Purchase them or print them for free!

In 2019 the design community celebrated the 100th anniversary of the German art school, and lots of illustrators brought their appreciation for the style to paper. See how multi-faced modern Bauhaus has become and pick your best work to hang on the wall.
