Over two years ago, we observed the current (for that moment) potency of the neural networks and tried to predict how they could be used to help designers, illustrators and photographers in their work. And today, Adobe presents the new version of Photoshop, which realizes the most awaited AI features and technologies.
The new Photoshop is the most significant step of Adobe towards the AI-empowered creative software and knows no equals. It brings to life our daring dreams of editing images faster and in fewer steps. It also brings us closer to treating a flat image like a voluminous object.
Adobe ships 5 features for Photoshop, all built on artificial intelligence. While some functions are already fully available, others, like Smart Portrait, are beta tools and may still need improvement. But who cares if you already can approach the workflow of the future?

Smart Portrait, which looks like the most captivating tool, isn’t one of these features, though. So, let’s check what these 5 features really are and how they can enhance your creative work.
Neural Filters
Neural Filters is a workspace inside Photoshop that introduces new non-destructive filters to help you explore creative ideas in seconds. Many of the filters are beta. However, you can still give them a try and share your feedback with Adobe. Skin Smoothing, Style Transfer, Smart Portrait, Colorize (a tool that colors b/w images) are just a part of the toolset. By the way, NVIDIA took part in the creation of Neural Filters, so now you know why some of the filters look so familiar!
Sky Replacement
This feature will be a huge timesaver for photographers as they retouch landscape, real estate, wedding and portrait photography. No need to select anything, the GAN-based AI will do everything for you. Everything that a human should do is to pick an alternative background and that’s it. However, the result isn’t always flawless, so you may have to do some final touches for a more natural look.
Discover Panel
The Discover panel uses AI to deliver recommendations based on you and your work. These recommendations include tips and tutorials on how to get multi-step processes done faster. It also features your top workflows packaged into automated one-click Quick Actions. This will be of great help for product creators focused on a single type of products and doing the same sequence of actions over and over again.
Intelligent Refine Edge
Selecting objects has never been easy. You struggled with hair and tiny details, which always went lost. Some time ago, Adobe already used Sensei AI to improve the selection and released Select Subject and Object Selection. Today, there are two new Sensei features, Object Aware Refine Mode and Refine Hair — at last!
