In 2017 the famous Russian Art. Lebedev Studio has launched the ‘Express design’ service. It’s not hard to figure out what context such name implies: saving money and time. There’s one thing needs to be brought up: clients see the ready-made work once it’s done. It’s up to you whether to like such creative logos or hate their guts.
This story is not that cute and heart-warming as it was with Dobry Znak project. Artemy Lebedev is known in the Russian design community as the person of a brave though and experimental spirit. He’s never afraid of being provocative and shocking — the feature some people can’t put up with easily. Nevertheless, his design studio is in demand not only for the reputation: these guys have a fresh and innovative approach to their projects, towering Art. Lebedev Studio over numerous other Russian design agencies.
Express Design Concept Delivery!
The idea to give away simple and cheap designs was born with a specific aim: helping startups to obtain the identity through developing logo ideas over a weekend. The price tag is low for work from a high profile company like that ($1580, approximately) but this is an affordable sum for a small business starting to stand firmly on its feet. The earned profits are spent by Art. Lebedev Studio on new furniture, computers, shelves, and other useful odds and ends.
Pretty noble you may think. However, the studio sets its conditions as well: the startup must be as small as possible and the carried out logo ideas are not negotiable. So the businessmen know what they’re signing up for.
Creative Logos Went Viral
Even some ‘black PR’ is still a PR, right? After receiving the created designs, some of the clients were not satisfied, to put it mildly. But instead of complaining or starting a useless quarrel with the studio, they just posted these masterpieces online to find out the community’s opinion. Such scandalous design concepts collected tons of likes, shares, and comments. The most well-discussed were the logo ideas for Belorussian burger place ‘JohnFedor’ and bakery called ‘Bulochnaya’ (translated from Russian as just ‘bakery’).
Needless to say, that the memes are always great! Some creative minds couldn’t stay away from yet another opportunity to put their stamina to good use.
Artemy Lebedev himself finds such design solutions brilliant and each time describes the new masterpiece with pride. Taking, for instance, one of some up-to-date projects, ‘Polirovanniy Beton’ (literally, ‘Polished Concrete’) logotype.
Designs are still great
On the whole, this experimental approach to designing identities is well-received! The statistics about the projects is freely presented on the studio’s website: 68 startups were completely satisfied with what they’ve got and only 15 not. There’s also a funny chart with the amount of messages the studio has exchanged with the client. And the most ‘discussed’ one was Upsec cyber security company logo and the least — Takebus transport service. They both turned out to be fantastic as many other attention-worthy creative logos by Art. Lebedev Studio. Thank God, the future of design is here! (or is it?)
