Brought from the Middle Ages and imbued with the bleakness and mystery of Cambridge and Oxford libraries, Old English fonts don’t leave creators indifferent. The same happened with us, actually, so in this selection, we’ve brought the best of Old English, gothic, and blackletter fonts and did our best to merge tradition with the recent trends.
Essential Old English Fonts
If you think that Old English fonts are cumbersome and inflexible when applied to modern projects, let us prove you wrong. Definitely, the old-fashioned typography is a themed twist and it is more likely to be used by musicians for metal album covers and merch or as a reference to the Medieval aesthetic. However, as we allow some freedom and drop some vibes onto classic calligraphy, the Old English fonts transform into a trendy tool able to crown literally any concept and design.
What are Old English Fonts?
Old English fonts are medieval script writing, otherwise called Gothic. They developed in the XII century and have been used ever since. The most recognizable version, Textura, was suggested by Gutenberg, and it was used for print unless more legible Roman types replaced them. The key feature of a classic Old English font is its consistency, and the dense letter placement inside the word and the sentence.
